LENIN'S EMBALMERS follows the journeys of Boris Zbarsky and Vladimir Vorobiov, two chemists who were given the job of embalming the communist leader Vladimir Lenin. But Boris and Vlad have some problems: Lenin has been dead for two months; no scientist has embalmed a person in perpetuity; they are both Jewish; they hate each other; if they fail, they'll be killed.
And so, in embalming Lenin, Boris (the political animal) and Vlad (the pure scientist) must defuse a scientific, political and moral bomb. The play follows Vlad and Boris on their wild, harrowing journey to preserve Lenin - and their own lives. In the end, it is science that not only saves them, but also seals their fate. Other characters in this full length, eight character play include Krasin, Stalin's henchman and the apparatchik who commissions the embalming. Of course, Lenin himself is an important character in the story, and rises from the embalming table to enlighten both us and the lead characters.
