GroundSwell is very pleased to be able to present the Winnipeg Youth Symphony Orchestra as our satellite concert this year, in keeping with our focus on education and outreach. WYSO Conductor Daniel Scholz has this to say about the event: "The WYSO and Groundswell are a wonderful fit for new music and emerging young artists. The energy, talent and enthusiasm brought to new music by our young and exciting musicians is not to be missed. Train by Murray Schafer is a work that he wrote for youth orchestras and is the aural depiction of a train’s journey across Canada. David Scott's Dwarf Planets is the result of his working in conjunction with WYSO members' ideas to construct this saga of Eris, Ceres, and Pluto. A Spring’s Promise by John Estacio is a beautiful and evocative composition that I feel depicts the typical Canadian’s longing for Spring after the long, cold winter. Luke Nickel is a former member of the WYSO and is currently a composition student at the University of Manitoba. His work, entitled L’étoile noyée, is a serene and flowing new composition. We are extremely fortunate and very happy to present it."
