The 5h Annual Combined Scottish coummunity parade to commemorate the 1812 arrival at the Red River of the Selkirk Settlers will be held this year on Saturday, September 11th. The parade route has been changed this year and lengthened and will for the first time pass the sites of the fur trade era forts.
In honour of the centenary this year of The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada (QOCH), the regimental pipe band will lead the parade. Other participating pipe bands include the St. Andrew's Society Pipe Band and the Lord Selkirk Boys Pipe Band.
DEPARTURE TIME:
* The Parade will commence at 12 Noon and parade marshalling to begin at 11:30 a.m. on Assiniboine Avenue at Fort Street.
PARADE ROUTE:
* Starts on Assiniboine Avenue immediately adjacent to the site of Upper Fort Garry, will proceed southeast across Main Street into The Forks via Fort Gibraltar Trail. Then through The Forks Market Square heading north onto Waterfront Drive ending at the Scots Thistle Monument on the site of Fort Douglas.
START & END TIME
* 12:00pm start from Assiniboine Avenue - approximately 3:00 p.m. conclusion at the Scots Monument
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Our Keynote Speaker at the Thistle Monument proceedings will be Mr. Murray Burt. Mr. Burt has just completed a book on the history of the "Queen's Own Cameron Highlander of Canada" Regiment and will be speaking about the history of the regiment
