In conjunction with Thin Air International Writers Festival, the West End Cultural Centre presents an evening with Dave Bidini. The show will consist of a solo concert and readings form his new book, Home and Away: In Search of Dreams at the Homeless World Cup of Soccer.
Dave Bidini is an author, playwright, filmmaker, and musician. He has written nine books including The Best Game You Can Name, Baseballissimo, and Tropic of Hockey (the latter was named one of the Top 100 Canadian Books of All-Time by McClelland and Stewart). His play, "The Five Hole Stories", was performed by One Yellow Rabbit and toured Canada in winter, 2009, and his two hockumentaries, "The Hockey Nomad" and "The Hockey Nomad Goes to Russia" were Gemini nominated-films (the former won for Best Documentary). He is the recipient of numerous National Magazine Awards as well as being a weekly columnist in The National Post and a contributor to Maisonneuve magazine.
Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers are a sextet of classically trained musicians that have crafted their own musical niche of operatic indie jazz. Flying Fox's high energy performances and breadth of repertoire spans the generational gap, appealing to folksters, indie popsters and big-band lovers alike.
