Maria Luz Alvarez, soprano & The WSO Baroque Chamber Players
The fiery passion of Spain is sure to loosen the grip of winter when soprano Maria Luz Alvarez and the WSO Baroque Chamber Players bring the glorious music of the baroque era to the Virtuosi stage.
Born in Madrid, she began her musical education at the Royal Superior School of Singing of Madrid with Milagros del Pozo. She completed her education at the Sweelinck Conservatorium of Amsterdam, graduating in 1994 in Early Music Performance, under the leadership of Peter Kooy. Her repertoire ranges from the Middle Ages to the present time, with special focus on the Baroque oratorio and cantata. She has also performed in baroque operas such as Dido and Eneas, Dioclesian and The Fairy Queen by Purcell, Acis and Galatea by Haendel and Azis y Galatea by Literes. Since 1995 she has been invited regularly by the Telemann Institute of Japan where she has performed the Japanese premieres of several Haendel oratorios besides Bach's Passions, Cantatas and the B Minor Mass.
