Ang Li, piano
Ang Li was born in 1985 in Beijing and made her first public appearance at the Beijing Concert Hall at age six. At the age of ten, she moved to study in the US and at thirteen, she made her orchestral debut with the Little Orchestra Society of New York in Avery Fisher Hall. Ang Li holds a Bachelor’s Degree from The Curtis Institute of Music and a Master’s Degree from The Juilliard School (2006). She completed her studies with an Artist Diploma at Texas Christian University, where she studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky in 2009.
Ms. Li is a recipient of numerous honors and prizes. She was awarded first prize and five special prizes at the 2003 OSM Competition in Montreal. Ms. Li was twice chosen to compete at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition where she was chosen as one of the top 35 pianists in 2005 and top 30 in 2009. As the winner of the 2007 Contemporary Record Society Competition, Ms. Li recorded a CD for the CRS featuring chamber music by Brahms and Russo, and contemporary solo piano works by Schlenck. Ms Li will record another album for CRS in 2010.
The 24-year old pianist performs regularly throughout North America and Europe and her last two concerts in Canada were broadcast live on CBC radio as will be the Virtuosi concert on October 3, 2009.
