Since the dawn of human evolution, humans have migrated across continents in search of food, shelter, safety, and hospitable weather. People migrate for these reasons and new reasons such as job relocation, a fresh start, money, family history and more.
“Constantly Moving” is an examination of my own reasons for migration. This series was inspired by a book written by “Aeltester” Gerhard Wiebe. He wrote about the reasons and history for the migration of the Mennonites from Russia to America. This book influenced another major migration of the Mennonites from Canada to South America.
My two part ceiling drywall installation as a a reference to the Sistine Chapel. Drywall is my canvas and a layer of drywall compound is my medium. I create a relief carving through the use of a utility knife and burn newspaper to colour the desired areas.
