As a part of her Nu Sounds Series debut, Winnipeg vocalist Amber Epp will combine original compositions and instrumental standards adapted for voice with original lyrics and vocalese. As a composer, Amber leans towards the groove-oriented vibes of Latin American jazz. She has been studying Afro-Cuban, Brasilian, and African music over the past two years, and the jazz idiom fuses very well with Latin rhythms.
Amber’s repertoire also includes arrangements of well-known pieces from the jazz mainstream. She has composed lyrics for both melodies and solos in works by Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, Hank Mobley, Sam Rivers, Dave Brubeck, Stanley Cowell, and Steve Kirby.
