Founded by John Hirsch and Tom Hendry in 1958, the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (Royal MTC) was Canada’s first English-speaking regional theatre. Most of Royal MTC’s 20,000 subscribers attend the John Hirsch Mainstage’s six large-scale productions. This is where audiences can experience musical hits like Million Dollar Quartet and contemporary classics such as The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Theatre lovers also subscribe to the Tom Hendry Warehouse where four cutting-edge plays, like the subversive sensation Hand to God, rock an intimate state-of-the-art space.
Royal MTC also produces the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival, North America’s second-largest Fringe Festival, and a mid-winter Master Playwright Festival.
